Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS)

Also known as OHSS, it is a complication that can arise during assisted reproduction treatments, such as in vitro fertilisation (IVF). It occurs when the ovaries overreact to hormone medications, mainly the beta-hCG hormone.

What causes it?

Although the exact cause of OHSS is not fully understood, it is known to be related to the administration of the beta-hCG hormone, which is used in ovarian stimulation cycles to trigger ovulation.
