Egg donation

It is a fertility treatment that consists of performing in vitro fertilization with eggs of a donor. It can be done with semen of the couple or semen of a donor. In Spain, egg donation has been legal and regulated since 1988, and the Assisted Reproduction Law protects the identity of both the donors and the children born thanks to this technique.

Procedure

  • Paso 1Ovarian stimulation of the donor

The donor woman receives hormonal medication for about 10 days to increase the production and maturation of the eggs.
  • Paso 2Follicular puncture and aspiration of the donor

When a sufficient number of mature oocytes is observed, an ovulation is induced and then a minimal procedure in the operating room is conducted under light sedation to extract the eggs through a technique guided by vaginal ultrasound. After this, the donor woman can return to her normal activities in a few hours.
  • Paso 3Fertilization and embryo culture

At IVF-Life, the egg fertilisation process is carried out in the laboratory under the expert supervision of embryologists. This team of professionals carefully monitors the development of the embryos to select those with the greatest viability. In some cases, a technique called ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) is used, where a single sperm is injected directly into the egg to facilitate the fertilisation. This technique is especially useful in cases of severe male infertility or when few sperm are available. Another complementary technique that can be used is assisted hatching. This technique consists of making a small opening in the zona pellucida that surrounds the embryo to facilitate its exit and improve the chances of implantation in the uterus. It is particularly useful in cases of embryos with a thicker zona pellucida, women over 37 years of age or with several failed IVF attempts.
  • Paso 4Preparation of the patient's endometrium

When the endometrium thickens, it gets ready to receive the embryo in what is called the implementation window. This crucial step in the treatment involves the prescription of hormones that stimulate its growth and promote the successful implantation of the embryo.
  • Paso 5Embryo transfer

During the transfer of embryos, a quick and painless procedure, the doctor introduces the embryo in the uterus. With the ultrasound evaluation and the technology and experience of IVF-Life, the transfer from a single embryo is recommended. This practice increases the chances of a successful pregnancy by ensuring its health and viability.
