In Vitro Fertilization

It is an assisted reproduction technique in which the egg is extracted from a woman’s ovary through ovarian puncture and is fertilized in the laboratory with sperm of the couple or donor. After fertilization, we obtain embryos that are observed in cultivation until their transfer to the women’s uterus to achieve pregnancy. It is an appropriate technique both in the case of masculine as well as feminine infertility.

Types

  • 01

With egg of an anonymous donor woman.*
  • 02

With semen of an anonymous donor man.*
  • 03

With an egg and semen from anonymous donors.
  • 04

With her own egg and the partner's semen. This type involves the participation of the couple, with the need to provide a semen sample.

* In the case of choosing an anonymous masculine or feminine donor, according to Spanish legislation, the anonymity of both the donor and the baby born from the donation is guaranteed.

Procedure

  • Paso 1Ovarian stimulation.

The woman receives hormonal medication for about 10 days to increase the production and maturation of the eggs.
  • Paso 2Follicular puncture and aspiration.

When enough mature oocytes are observed, the ovulation is induced, and then a minimal procedure in the operating room is conducted under light sedation to extract the eggs through a technique guided by vaginal ultrasound. After this, the woman can return to her normal activities in a few hours.
  • Paso 3Preparation of the seminal sample.

In this process, the sperm with greater potential for fertilization are selected.
  • Paso 4Fertilization and embryo culture.

At IVF-Life, the process of fertilization of the egg is carried out in the laboratory under the expert supervision of embryologists. This team of professionals carefully monitors the development of the embryos to select those with greater viability. In addition, they keep patients always informed about the progress of the treatment. In some cases, a technique called Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection, also known as ICSI, is used, where a single sperm is injected directly into the egg to facilitate the fertilization. This technique is especially useful in cases of severe male infertility or when there are few sperm available. Another complementary technique that can be used is assisted hatching. This technique consists of making a small opening in the zona pellucida that surrounds the embryo to facilitate your exit and improve the chances of implantation in the uterus. It is particularly useful in cases of embryos with a thicker zona pellucida, women over 37 years of age or with several failed IVF attempts.
  • Paso 5Preparation of the endometrium.

The endometrium, the inner layer of the uterus, thickens during the menstrual cycle preparing for embryo implantation, which is known as the implementation window. The prescribed hormones increase their thickness to promote embryo implantation.
  • Paso 6Embryo transfer.

During the embryo transfer, a quick and painless procedure, the medical staff introduces the embryo in the uterus. With the ultrasound evaluation and the technology and experience of IVF-Life, the transfer from a single embryo is recommended. This practice increases the chances of a successful pregnancy by ensuring its health and viability.
  • Paso 7Pregnancy analysis.

Between 12 and 14 days after the embryo transfer, an analysis is performed to confirm if there is pregnancy. It measures the beta-hCG hormone, whose levels are a reliable marker for confirming pregnancy.
  • Paso 8Pregnancy control ultrasound.

Two weeks after the positive pregnancy test, a control ultrasound is done. Good quality embryos are vitrified for future cycles without repeating the ovarian stimulation.

Who is this treatment indicated for?

  • Women with alterations in Fallopian tube.

  • Women with irregular menstruation periods.

  • Women who have not had success with artificial insemination before.

  • Men who suffer infertility.

  • Couples who could transmit genetic problems to their children.
